Rumours have been doing the rounds that 'Fast 8' star Dwayne Johnson, aka, The Rock could be facing combat athlete Brock Lesnar pretty soon, with the possible events being WWE Clash of Champions 2016, scheduled for later this month or WrestleMania 33, scheduled for April next year.
While the match would turn out to be a dream one for everyone, the Vince McMahon-led WWE has not said anything officially about the status of the match, leaving all the wrestling fans intrigued. If anything of this sort indeed happens, expect the pro wrestling company to drop the announcement at a juncture which can take fans by complete surprise.
Lesnar, a former UFC Heavyweight champion as well as a former WWE Heavyweight champion, faced The Rock, one of the most sensational pro wrestlers ever to compete in the WWE, for the first-time ever in WWE SummerSlam 2002 to win and become the youngest WWE champion in the company's history.
A possible rematch or a 'The Rock vs Brock Lesnar 2' was teased by pro wrestling legend Paul Heyman, who is also the advocate of the combat athlete. "Notice how The Rock picks fights with Bray Wyatt, or fights with Rusev and John Cena?" Heyman told The Sun, referring to Dwayne Johnson's cameo appearances in WWE over recent years.
"Notice how The Rock doesn't pick a fight with Brock Lesnar? Is Brock Lesnar ready for The Rock? Is The Rock ready for Brock?" he questioned.
For the record, WWE Clash of Champions is scheduled for Sept. 25 and it is anything, but late for WWE to announce about the major clash. This takes us to the question if WWE are indeed preparing for the rematch to happen on April 2 next year at WrestleMania 33? Even that remains unsure.
Lesnar could also face Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania 33.
"I think Brock Lesnar against anyone is an automatic sell-out. Brock does not wrestle 52 Monday's a year on Monday Night Raw, he does not come to your home town every week, his appearances are rare," Heyman said.
"They are unique and extraordinary. Which is why, whenever Brock Lesnar appears it is a rare and unique opportunity for the paying customer to see the greatest living athlete in the history of WWE appear live in an extraordinary event that only Brock Lesnar can deliver on. This is why he is the greatest box office attraction," he added.
