Farhan Akhtar's Rock On 2 received poor opening response on Friday, November 11. The film was expected to open on a grand note considering it is the sequel to the Indian rock music drama Rock On, which was a hit in 2008. But it failed to collect a decent amount at the Indian box office on its first day.
Rock On 2, which also stars Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, raked in Rs 2.02 crore on its opening day. Despite getting released in about 1,750 screens in the domestic market, the film witnessed an occupancy of only around 15 percent across the country. "#RockOn2 has a DISMAL start... Fri ₹ 2.02 cr. India biz," Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes is being called the main reason for the low occupancy on the opening day, besides the mixed reviews given by critics and viewers alike. The film is said to have failed to relive the famous band Magik and lacks the charm of the 2008 film.
Trade experts had also predicted that Rock On 2 will have a poor start at the box office and will collect an average number on its opening day. Although the film's music album and trailer had received lukewarm response, the wide promotions was expected to help the film's business.
Rock On 2 also witnessed a poor opening at the overseas box office (UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) and made Rs 8.4 lakh on Friday.
Going by the poor opening day response of Rock On 2, it seems the film will do an average business at the box office.
