It's Bollywood veteran Rishi Kapoor's birthday on September 4, and ahead of his big day he spoke to a Mumbai-based tabloid about his recent work, playing a Muslim character in his career, and whether he approves of the (alleged) relationship of his actor son Ranbir Kapoor with actress Alia Bhatt.
Rishi Kapoor is known not to mince words, especially on Twitter where he hits back at trolls with a vengeance. But the actor is in a happy space as far as acting is concerned, with his recent release Mulk winning him accolades.
In a candid chat with veteran journalist Khalid Mohamed for Mumbai Mirror, Rishi Kapoor talks about his recent innings, "Belatedly maybe, it's been a thrill ride with Kapoor & Sons, 102 Not Out, and Mulk, which is my greatest leap forward."
On Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt
On being asked whether he approves of the 'jodi' of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, who star together in Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra trilogy, Rishi Kapoor says, "It's Ranbir's life. Who he wants to get married to is his prerogative. Neetu likes her (Alia), I like her, Ranbir likes her. Get it?"
"I can't be judgemental. After all, my uncles Shammiji and Shashiji and I chose our life partners. Ranbir is entitled to choose his," he added.
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were spotted chatting with her dad Mahesh Bhatt. Alia also spent time dining with Ranbir's family recently. Ranbir has twice over spoken about his new relationship and how he needs to give it time. He also talked about how much he admires Alia for her work.
Alia Bhatt, in turn, has been posting pictures clicked by Ranbir Kapoor on her Instagram account, crediting him as "RK" and calling him an "amaze photographer".
All this has created a strong buzz that Ranbir and Alia, who is much younger than him, will soon be getting married.
Ranbir Kapoor has been single after his long-term relationship with actress Katrina Kaif did not work out after they lived-in for over a year. Alia Bhatt had allegedly been dating her co-star Sidharth Malhotra but the two are not together anymore. She was also rumoured to be dating Kavin Mittal, the founder of Hike Messenger and the son of Airtel Chairman Sunil Mittal.
So whether the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt hook-up is real or just publicity for Brahmastra, only time will tell. But fans are loving it, digging out old videos and pictures where they seemed into each other.
