Dattu Bhokanal couldn't progress further in the men's singles sculls rowing event at the Rio Olympics 2016 as he saw himself getting knocked out of the competition by a whisker. The Indian rower came in fourth in the quarterfinals of the event on Tuesday.
Dattu, 25, who represents the Indian Army, made an impressive start in the quarterfinal four of the event and took the pole position initially. However, it was Damir Martin of Croatia who reigned supreme following bagging the lead after the 500 m mark of the 2 km course. Dattu stood fourth following the cross of the 1 km stretch.
A neck to neck competition ensued between the Indian rower and Alan Campbell of Great Britain during the final stretch of the 2 km long course but following the 1500m mark, it was the Briton who took a firm grip on the third spot. Campbell upped the ante with 500m more to go and got past Natan Węgrzycki-Szymczyk of Poland this time to take the second position in the event, behind Martin.
Dattu finished the course with a time of 6:59.89.
