With four months down this financial year, Maruti Suzuki enjoys the numero uno position in the mid-size sedan and SUV segment following huge demand for the Ciaz and Vitara Brezza.
In the first four months of this fiscal, Maruti Suzuki had sold 18,852 units of the Ciaz sedan, reports Financial Express. Its main rival, Honda City clocked just under 17,000 units. In the last fiscal, Honda was in the driving seat with 77,548 units, while sales of the Ciaz stood at 54,233 units. The numbers indicate customer demand is shifting in favour of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz over the long time leader, Honda City.
In case of SUVs, Maruti Suzuki sold 31,930 units of the Vitara Brezza SUVs in the first four months of this financial year. Hyundai India sold 30,638 units of the Creta and Mahindra sold 17,832 units of the Bolero. Bolero, the most popular SUV for over a decade is experiencing biggest dent in sales with the arrival of Vitara Brezza and the Creta.
The Ciaz was launched in 2014. Prior to that, sales of Maruti Suzuki were driven by budget cars such as the Alto, Wagon R, Swift and Swift Dzire. However, the success of the Ciaz has given confidence to the company to foray in a new segment.
Pushed by the spike in sales of the Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki utility vehicle sales saw a growth of 114.5 percent in August. Starting from April, surge in sales of Maruti Suzuki's UV sales is evident with the entry of Vitara Brezza. The demand of the SUV indicates that the company will rule the segment in the coming months as well.
