Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, the Indian arm of the Japanese car maker Nissan has registered a growth of 89 percent in September. The company sold 4,948 vehicles in September 2016 as against 2,616 units a year ago in September 2015.
Nissan also reported 48 percent growth, with 29,029 units sold in the period between April and September this year against 19,563 units in the same period last year. Datsun's small hatchback, the redi-Go, has been driving the sales of Nissan in India since its launch in June. The company had also posted over 5,000 units of sale in the country for straight three months starting from June.
"Fiscal 2016 has been encouraging for us, especially the last quarter. Nissan has delivered solid results and we will begin the next quarter & festive season on a good note. Datsun redi-Go sales continue to be strong and we are delighted by its acceptance with consumers in India," said Arun Malhotra, managing director, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd.
To push the sales further, Datsun has recently rolled out the special edition of the redi-Go in India, called the redi-Go Sport. Priced at Rs 3.47 lakh (ex-showroom), the redi-Go Sport comes with additional features such as theme grille-red accents, theme wheel cover, graphics, roof spoiler, sporty dashboard, Bluetooth audio system, remote key-less entry and rear parking sensor.
Under the hood, the redi-Go gets a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor that churns out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and claims to return a fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl.
The redi-Go is pinned to rival segment's front runners like Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and Renault Kwid in India.
