During the Season 2 finale of "Rick and Morty" last year (2015), Mr. Poopybutthole — one of the fan-favourite characters on the show — stated that the next season of the adult animated TV series will be aired after a year and a half.
However, last month (March), reports surfaced online teasing that the production of "Rick and Morty" Season 3 seems to be ahead of schedule and that there's a strong chance the show could return to the small screen by end of this year.
Latest reports and Twitter updates from the show's makers seem to further strengthen the prospect of Season 3 premiering this year. The show's Twitter handle recently posted the first look at a dialogue from an episode of "Rick and Morty" Season 3.

According to Master Herald, hints about Season 3 began when writers posted glimpses of the scripts for the completed episodes of "Rick and Morty" Season 3, in March. They also tweeted censor notes on some of the dialogues from an upcoming episode. Clearly, the series has not lost its flair for profanity. Another good news for fans of "Rick and Morty" is that Season 3 shall have 14 episodes, which will be the highest number for the show in three seasons.
Even though there has been no official confirmation or announcement with regards to the show's Season 3 release date, rumours and speculation seem to indicate that it could premiere in December this year.
