The search for suitable actresses to play Aamir Khan's daughters in "Dangal" has ended as Fatima Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra have been finalised to essay the roles.
Shaikh and Malhotra bagged the roles of Geeta and Babita after months of auditions, according to Mumbai Mirror.
Fatima, a Mumbai-based girl, has appeared in a few TV serials and films. On the other hand, Sanya is a Delhi-based trained ballet dancer.
This news has put an end to all speculations. Several popular actresses, including Akshara Haasan, Taapsee Pannu, and Deeksha Seth, were being considered for the roles.
A few reports also suggested that a local athlete from Haryana was to play one of the daughters in the flick. "Over 15,000 girls were auditioned in Haryana, including Taapsee and television actress Kritika Kamra. But the production team selected a local athlete," a source told Mid Day.
However, film's director Nitesh Tiwari denied the story. And, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, the "PK" actor said, "Casting is one of the biggest challenges. Work is in progress, no decision has been taken yet by Nitesh."
"Dangal" is reportedly a biopic, based on the life of famous wrestler Mahavir Phogat - the father of wrestlers Geeta and Babita Kumari Phogat. He trained three Commonwealth Games gold medallists, including his daughters Geeta and Babita.
Aamir Khan will play the lead role and three different stages of Phogat's life will be shown on-screen. The 49-year-old actor will play a 19-year-old teenager and 27-year-old young man, but a major portion of the film will see him as a 55-year-old man.
Interestingly, the actor has increased his weight to 90 kg for the role. However, after finishing his shoot as a heavy weight wrestler, he plans to shed the extra kilos so as to look like a 27-year-old man.
