A new prototype of what is believed to be Renault's upcoming compact hatch codenamed XBA has been snapped ahead of its launch in India.
Renault XBA, a model which is scheduled to make its India debut on 20 May, has been in the headlines for quite a while now. Now the latest is a new set spy shot of a heavily camouflaged prototype by Motro Vikatan. From the images, there is nothing much one can really pull out since the model is completely hiding under thick black cover. However, the spy shots give us a fairly good idea of the overall body proportion of the upcoming Renault model.
Renault, the French car maker, has confirmed that the new compact hatch will be globally unveiled on 20 May through an event in India.
Renault's small car, which is supposedly named Kayou, is based on CMF-A (Common Module Family – Affordable) and is expected to be priced sub ₹4 lakh in India. From what we know so far, the model XBA aka Kayou is likely to be offered in four variants and will come powered by 800cc petrol engine.
As for transmission, the XBA is rumoured to get manual transmission and we also hear that the company could introduce AMT variant too.
Other key details of the model are not known yet, but from what we have seen Renault XBA, a low cost model will be coming with single wiper blade for front windshield and outdated rear-view mirrors.
The model will hit the assembly line at Renault-Nissan Oragadam Plant in Chennai, and when launched, Renault XBA will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon.
