The wait is over. The hotly-anticipated small car from the house of Renault is here. Dubbed as Renault Kwid, the new low-cost small car has been unveiled. In India, the car will be priced in the range of ₹3 lakh to ₹4 lakh.
Kwid, the most-localised offering of Renault, will hit Indian roads during the Diwali festive season, this year. Renault Kwid is built on new platform CMF-A, and Nissan will also be launching a car riding on the same platform next year.
French car maker Renault opened a new chapter on 20 May with the launch of its small car, codenamed XBA.
An Indian Autos Blog report claims that Renault will also be introducing an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) variant of its new Kwid in India. This variant is likely to be only for the Indian market.
Renault XBA, an entry-level small car that is supposedly monikered Kayou by the makers of Duster SUV, will make its global debut in Chennai on 20 May. Although the model was caught on camera numerous times during testing in India, the key details of the model are still under wraps. Renault also released the promotional video of the new XBA aka Kayou.

From what we know so far, Renault Kayou, the new entrant in the small-car segment, will be rivalling Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon in India. Based on CMF-A (Common Module Family – Affordable), Renault XBA ka Kayou is likely to be priced in the sub-₹4 lakh bracket.
As for engine, Renault XBA will be packing 800cc petrol engine and is expected to be offered in four variants. There have also been rumours about AMT version of Kayou; however, nothing has been stated officially. If this rings true, Kayuo will be Renault's first AMT offering in the country.
Produced at Renault-Nissan Oragadam plant in Chennai, the car is expected to include features like air conditioning, 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, and power windows.
