It is perhaps the worst kept secret that French car maker Renault is readying a small car codenamed XBA for the Indian market to rival Maruti Suzuki Alto. Now the latest news is that XBA will see the light of day after nine months, which is roughly by December.
Renault, which is aiming to double its sales in India in two years, has two new products for India this year -- Lodgy MPV and small car XBA, reported PTI. XBA, a sub-4 lakh model, which is currently in its developing stage, will be launched in the country after nine months.
Renault's current portfolio in India includes five models -- Pulse, Scala, Duster, Fluence and Koleos.
Coming back to Renault XBA, a model based on CMF-A (Common Module Family – Affordable) is designed to rival Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon. Under the hood, Renault's small car is expected to pack 800cc petrol engine coupled with an automated manual transmission (AMT) or manual transmission.
The model was caught undergoing tests in the country numerous times. The previous spy shots have shown us the model wearing single wiper blade for front windshield and outdated rear-view mirrors.
Renault will also be launching its MPV Lodgy in India and the latest we hear is that the model will hit showrooms by March end. Under the hood, Renault Lodgy is likely to get 1.5-litre diesel engine and 1.5-litre petrol mill.
