The latest buzz on the Internet is that French automaker Renault is planning a new SUV,which would be big in size, for India and other Asian markets.
A report in Auto Express claims that top Renault officials have confirmed the news and the model is likely to be launched in 2017.
While in other markets, the yet-to-be-named SUV will be competing against the likes of Nissan X-Trail, in India the model is likely to be positioned against Toyota Fortuner and the new Endeavour. It will sit above the recently-unveiled Kadjar and is likely to have a name starting with C or K.
Other details about the SUV are scant at this point of time. But rumours indicate the seven-seater SUV will be built on the same platform of latest Nissan X-Trail and the engine options are also likely to be the same.
Renault, which is looking to tap new volumes in Indian market is gearing up to launch its Lodgy MPV in the country in the coming months.
Lodgy is likely to get power from 1 .5-litre dCi four-cylinder diesel engine, which can churn out 85 PS and 110 PS of power outputs.
The MPV, which will take on Honda Mobilio, will get a price tag in the range of ₹8- ₹11 lakh.
The features expected include steering-mounted controls, touchscreen infotainment system with USB, AUX connectivity and rear view camera with reverse parking sensors.
