Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and MD of Renault India, has announced that the bookings of the Kwid hatchback crossed 1 lakh at the Auto Expo 2016. Now that the company is also planning to export the small car to the Brazilian market March onwards, the country needs to increase its production from current 6,000 units per month.
In tune with the heavy demand, the French company has decided to increase production at its Oragadam manufacturing unit near Chennai. The company is planning to produce 10,000 units of Kwid per month from March 2016 reports ET Auto. The increase in production will result in the waiting period coming down to three months from the current six to seven months.
Renault India has set a target of attaining 5 percent market share by the end of 2017 and has already touched 4.5 percent in February informed Sawhney. "We are working very hard to achieve 5 per cent market share by the second half of 2016," he told reporters in Chennai on 9 February.
The French manufacturer had a dream run in 2015 after the launch of Kwid. The company is planning to cross over one lakh sales in 2016 as against the total sales of 54,000 units in 2015. Renault India unveiled the new range of Kwid models -- Kwid 1.0litre SCe, Kwid Easy-R AT – at the 13th edition of the Auto Expo.
The popular small car in the market will get 1.0 litre DOHC smart control efficiency engine, which offers more power than the current engine. On the other hand, the Kwid Easy-R AT will get 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Both the models will be launched in the market soon.
