French auto-maker Renault's small hatchback Kwid has become an instant hit, garnering over 85,000 bookings in the country, and compelling the company to ramp up production to meet the unprecedented demand.
The staggering sales of Kwid led the waiting period of this entry level model going up to 10 months in certain cities, within few weeks of its launch. However, things seem to be getting back on track now after the increase in production from the original 5,000 units per month. Renault dealers have confirmed to IBTimes India that the waiting period of the Kwid has dropped in the country after the company increased production of the model.
Dealers of Renault in top cities informed this reporter that the waiting period of the Kwid has seen a decline to up to six months from the previous 10 months. While in city like Bengaluru the waiting period is six months, in Delhi the Kwid has a waiting period of up to four months. In Chennai, Renault Kwid enjoys a waiting period of up to five months depending on the variant. Dealers in Mumbai informed us the waiting period now stands at six months.
Offered in four variants — Standard, RxE, RxL and RxT — under the hood, Kwid gets 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm with a five-speed manual gearbox.
