The Kwid hatchback launched in September last year has been a tremendous success for Renault India. The hatchback with SUV-ish stance has received over 1.5 lakh bookings since its launch. The monthly sales figures also show positive response. The Kwid overtook the sales of the Maruti Suzuki Swift for the first time in June.
According to the bestselling car list by ET Auto, Renault India sold 9,459 unit of the Kwid, whereas Maruti Suzuki managed to sell only 9,033 units of the Swift. Renault Kwid also saw a month-on-month growth of 41 percent in June. The Kwid has also helped the company to lift its market share from 2.3 percent to 3.8 percent.
Renault India has also tied up with mobile payment and commerce platform Paytm. All the variants of the Kwid are now available on the Paytm website. The service will be available only in Delhi and NCR initially while expansion to other parts of the country is also on the cards. Renault is the first car brand to partnership with Paytm.
The small car, which rivals segment leader Maruti Suzuki Alto, currently commands a waiting period of up to four months in India. The company has recently increased the production of the Kwid at its factory in Chennai to meet the increased demand across the country and currently targeting production capacity to 10,000 units.
The Kwid is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. It boasts of fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl.
