French auto maker Renault is wasting no time in grabbing a neat pie in the burgeoning small car market, where it launched its entry level car Kwid recently with a stunning price tag starting at Rs 2.56 lakh. Now the latest buzz is that Renault's new Kwid could get two more variants in India soon.
A GaadiWaadi report reveals that Renault has applied for the Kwid racer and Kwid climber trademarks, which could join the new Kwid variants in coming days. Although at this point of time other details about the new variants are not known, reports suggest that Kwid racer could be a sporty variant of the model with accessories like sporty alloys and graphics. On the other hand, Kwid Climber, which is likely to be an off-roader, could get roof rails, skid plates and diffuser.
Launched in four variants -- Standard, RxE, RxL and RxT -- the Renault Kwid, the latest in the small car segment to compete against the likes of Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon, has been earning tremendous response from the auto lovers for its styling most importantly the pricing.
With the class leading ground clearance of 180 mm and a boot capacity of 300 litres, Kwid measures 3679mm in length, 1579mm in height and 1471mm in width. It has a wheelbase of 2422mm.
Under the hood, powering the Kwid is a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 54PS and a peak torque of 72Nm with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Kwid also leads in terms of fuel efficiency with the best-in-class mileage at 25.17kmpl.
