Even as the competition in the entry-level hatchback segment tightens with the arrival of new models, the Kwid continues to scribe success stories for French carmaker Renault. The small car with SUV-stance, which completed one year in India in September, still remains a top choice for buyers looking for a car in that segment.
Renault Kwid is having a successful run, with over 1.65 lakh bookings, and the demand is expected to go up as a new 1.0 litre variant is also in the line-up now. Renault Kwid was originally launched in India with 800cc engine and was later in 2016 joined by a 1,000cc engine. Soon, the Kwid will also be available in AMT (automated manual transmission) avatar.
The waiting period of the Kwid continues to stand at six months, depending on the variant and the city. The car recorded 56,028 unit sales in the first half of FY 2016-17. It also crossed monthly sales of 10,000 units for the first time in August 2016.
The Kwid comes powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The car also returns ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl. On the other hand, the 1.0 litre variant of the model gets 999cc 3-cylinder engine that can churn out 67bhp of power at 5500rpm and 91Nm of torque at 4250rpm. The Kwid 1.0 litre claims to deliver a mileage of 23.01 kmpl.
The Kwid currently has been priced starting at Rs 2.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
