Launched on 24 September, Renault India's Kwid hatchback has received an overwhelming response from buyers, with bookings now over 50,000 units. The hatchback is in great demand despite the waiting period, which is almost eight months.
Renault sold 5,195 units of Kwid in October, reports IndianAutoBlog. In comparison, its rival Hyundai Eon registered 6,479 units. It's clear that the Kwid is catching up with the leaders of the segment. Variant wise results of Maruti Suzuki are not out yet. Hence, a comparison with the best seller of the segment, the Alto, is not available at present.
The high number of sales of Kwid was evident in the monthly sales data of Renault India. The French company put up a stupendous performance, registering an exponential growth of 92% in October 2015. Following the high demand, Renault India was prompted to increase production recently. This is expected to increase the sales of the Kwid even more in November.
Going by the trend, the popularity of the Kwid is expected to sustain the momentum for Renault. An enquiry with a local dealership by IBTimes India confirmed over 5,000 bookings from Bangalore alone.
The Kwid became an instant success in the market for its price that starts at Rs 2.56 lakh and raised the ground clearance of 180mm, which is spot on for Indian roads. The segment leading model's features include Medianav system that has navigation Bluetooth audio streaming, hands-free telephony, USB and aux–input ports, and speed sensing volume control.
The Kwid hatchback is powered by a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
