Renault India's small car has been performing great in terms of sales and booking for the company, and the latest reports say the car has received over 1.25 lakh bookings. The French manufacturer also sold 41,204 units within six months of its launch, Livemint reported.
The small car received 1 lakh bookings in the beginning of February. Sumit Sawhney, managing director and CEO of Renault India, announced at the Auto Expo 2016 that the car had attained this magic number. This is the first car that is supported by CMF-A platform developed by Renault-Nissan Alliance. It will next support the newly-unveiled Datsun redi-Go next.
With higher localisation level of 98 percent, the Kwid currently retails at a starting price of Rs. 2.62 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The car is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm, mated a five-speed manual gearbox.
The small car also got overwhelming response due to features such as Medianav system that has navigation Bluetooth audio streaming, hands-free telephony, USB and aux–input ports, and speed sensing volume control. The car also returns ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl, which makes it the most fuel-efficient petrol car in the country.
Renault India is inching closer to the launch of a new Kwid variant with 1000cc engine and AMT transmission. Rumour has it that the model may be launched in June. With the addition of new variant, the Kwid is expected to give Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon a run for their money.
