The competition in the hatchback segment has intensified with French carmaker Renault launching the new AMT (automated manual transmission) avatar of the Kwid in India. Renault launched the Kwid AMT in India on Friday, November 11, with a price tag of Rs 4.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Renault Kwid, which truly changed the game for the French carmaker in the Indian market, stays true to its original version in its new AMT version except for minor tweaks to accommodate the AMT box. The Kwid AMT now gets Shift Control Dial, which will offer three driving modes — Reverse, Neutral and Drive — and will be placed at the centre bottom of the dashboard next to the control button for door lock.
The new Kwid AMT is available in the top-end RXT variant of the car, and comes powered by a 1.0-litre engine that can churn out 67hp of power and 91Nm of torque. The Kwid 1.0 litre AMT claims to deliver a fuel efficiency of 24.04 kmpl, which is higher than the mileage of Kwid 1.0litre that stands at 23.01kmpi.
Available in five colour options — Fiery Red, Ice Cool White, Moon Light Silver, Outback Bronze and Planet Grey — the Kwid AMT continues to feature Touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, USB, Bluetooth audio streaming and aux, remote keyless entry with central locking, front power windows, foldable backrest and passenger-side ORVMs.
"Renault Kwid has redefined the compact hatchback segment in India, becoming one of the highest selling cars across segments. Looking at evolving customer preferences, AMT technology is becoming popular in the compact hatchback segment and we are happy to build on our portfolio by launching the Kwid AMT," said Sumit Sawhney, country CEO and managing director, Renault India Operations. "Together with the convenience that the Kwid AMT will offer, it will come with a revolutionary first in segment SHIFT CONTROL AMT DIAL (R-N-D) instead of a conventional gearstick and it will boast of the same class leading and segment redefining features that have made Kwid a runaway success in India."
The booking process for the new Kwid AMT is open at the dealership centres of the company. The car can also be booked through the Renault KWID App, which can be downloaded from Google Playstore or Apple Store. The new Kwid AMT will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT and Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT in India.
