Here is another piece of news that would bring cheer to fans of the Kwid this festive season. While the French auto-maker confirmed that the new 1.0 litre version of the Kwid would join its line-up on Aug. 22, the latest buzz is that the automated manual transmission (AMT) variant of this entry-level hatchback will follow the launch.
Renault Kwid AMT is likely to be launched by the end of this year. Although the details of the AMT avatar of the Kwid are not known yet, rumours say that it is likely to get 5-speed automated manual transmission. The Kwid AMT could be called in India the Kwid Easy-R AT. Powering the Kwid AMT will be the same 999cc 3-cylinder DOHC engine that can churn out 67hp of power and 91Nm of torque. It is the same engine that odes duty in the new Kwid 1.0 litre.
The current model of Kwid that is in the market carries 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor under the hood, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm with a five-speed manual gearbox.
From a visual perspective, the Kwid AMT is likely to remain the same as the soon-to-be-launched Kwid 1.0 litre. It is expected to get a dual-tone dashboard, rear parcel tray, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, USB, Bluetooth and aux-in, and foldable backrest. The Kwid AMT will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT in India.
