It looks like Renault is leaving no stone unturned to grab a neat pie in the Indian auto market. While all this while we only talked about the automated manual transmission (AMT) variant for the company's newly launched Kwid 1.0 litre, here is something interesting that is coming.
The latest report is that the French car-maker is not planning to shelve the Kwid 800cc, the original version of the Kwid, which turned the tables for the auto-maker in the sub-continent. The Kwid with 0.8 litre could also get AMT box in the country along with 1.0 litre Kwid, reports Zigwheels. Renault is expected to launch the AMT variant of the Kwid 1.0 litre in the country during the festive season this year.
Renault Kwid had showcased Kwid 1.0 litre AMT at the Auto Expo 2016. The Kwid AMT could be called in India, the Kwid Easy-R AT, and is expected to get 5-speed automated manual transmission. The same is also likely to make it to the Kwid 0.8 litre. According to the latest reports, the Kwid AMT is also likely to be offered on the top-end variants of the model. Renault Kwid 1.0 litre is also offered in the top variants.
The Kwid is powered by 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor under the hood, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm with a five-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the 1.0 litre gets 999cc 3-cylinder DOHC engine that can churn out 67hp of power and 91Nm of torque.
Renault Kwid AMT is likely to see a price tag of Rs. 30,000 higher than the current model. Meanwhile, Renault has hiked the prices of the Kwid by up to Rs. 10,000. As per the revised price list, the Kwid, the fast-selling model of the company, now goes for a price of Rs. 2,64,734 for the standard variant.
The Kwid has been a runaway success in the country with over 1.65 lakh bookings within less than a year. Renault is expected to touch 1 lakh sales of the Kwid soon.
