As French auto-maker Renault gets ready to launch the much awaited powerful avatar of its popular Kwid in India, the specifications of the soon to-be-launched model have been revealed, giving an early glimpse at the offering.
The Kwid 1.0 litre will be launched in the country on Aug. 22 and Renault is expected to commence the delivery of the model in early September. The bookings for the new Kwid 1.0 litre are open at the dealerships of the company for a down payment of Rs. 10,000.
The Kwid 1.0 litre, the new avatar of the much-acclaimed model of Renault, which also changed the fortune of the French auto-maker in the country, will come powered by a 999cc 3-cylinder DOHC engine. The engine is tuned to churn out 67hp of power and 91Nm of torque. The 1.0 litre avatar of the Kwid will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox initially and is expected to get automated manual transmission (AMT) later.
Coming to the fuel efficiency of the new Kwid, the 1.0 litre variant of the entry-level hatchback claims to deliver a mileage of 23.01 kmpl. The current Kwid, which is in the market offers 25.17 kmpl. The current Kwid in India is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm.
From a visual stand point, the new Kwid 1.0 litre will look identical to the current model, but includes minor changes like dual-tone OVRMs and 'SCe' badge at the rear. The Kwid 1.0 litre will also get decals on the body.
Coming to the interior, the cabin remains largely unchanged and the Kwid 1.0 litre will feature dual-tone dashboard, rear parcel tray, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, USB, Bluetooth and aux-in and foldable backrest. On the safety front, the Kwid 1.0 litre will feature remote keyless entry with central locking and driver side airbag as optional.
The Kwid 1.0 litre will be available in the RXT and RXT (O) variant. As far as the pricing of the new Kwid is concerned, expect the company to price it competitively. Rumour has it that the Kwid 1.0 litre could get a price tag starting at Rs. 3.15 lakh.
