French auto-maker Renault is all set to launch the new avatar of its popular model Kwid in India. The Kwid 1.0 litre will go on sales in the country from Aug.22 (Monday).
The Kwid 1.0 litre gets the biggest change under the hood. While the current model in the market is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor that is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm, the new avatar of the hatchback will come with a 999cc 3-cylinder DOHC engine. This engine will generate 67hp of power and 91Nm of torque. The transmission in the new Kwid 1.0 litre will be taken care of by a five-speed manual gearbox. Renault will also launch the automated manual transmission (AMT) avatar of the Kwid later this year, during the festive season.
Coming to the fuel efficiency of the new Kwid, the 1.0 litre variant of the entry-level hatchback claims to deliver a mileage of 23.01 kmpl. The current Kwid in the market offers 25.17 kmpl.
There is nothing much to talk about the style and design of the Kwid since the model is already in the market with a different engine. While the hatchback will retain its SUV-stance in the new 1.0 litre avatar, the Kwid 1.0 litre will house changes like dual-tone OVRMs and 'SCe' badge at the rear and body decals.
Inside the cabin, the new Kwid remains more or less the same and will pack a slew of features such as dual-tone dashboard, rear parcel tray, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, USB, Bluetooth and aux-in and foldable backrest.
To be offered in in the RXT and RXT (O) variant, the safety in the Kwid 1.0 litre will be the duty of remote keyless entry with central locking and the company will also offer driver side airbag as optional.
As for pricing, expect the Kwid 1.0 litre to be priced competitively in the market. The bookings for the Kwid 1.0 litre are open in the country for a down payment of Rs. 10,000.
