Here's some good news for auto lovers in India. The Kaptur SUV from French carmaker Renault is on its way to the Indian market. And what seems to be a good sign of its arrival in the market is that the Kaptur, which is also known as Captur, has hit the Indian roads for testing.

If that is not enough, here are the first spy shots of the Kaptur SUV, which was captured by IndianAutosblog while the vehicle was undergoing tests in India. Renault is expected to add the new SUV to its Indian portfolio in the second half of 2017. Renault unveiled the India-bound Kaptur in March.

There is nothing much one can really pull out from the first set of images of the Kaptur as the test mule captured is seen fully covered. However, from what we know so far, the Kaptur draws its design cues from Clio-based Renault Captur and Kaptur measures 4,333mm in length, 1,813mm in width and 1,613mm in height, and has a 2,674mm wheelbase.

The Kaptur, which is codenamed HHA, will rival the Mahindra XUV500 and the new Honda BR-V in the segment. It is expected to get a new honeycomb mesh patterned grille, large front bumper, C-shaped LED daytime running lights and LED tail lamps. Other features expected include a touchscreen infotainment system, three-spoke multi-steering wheel and digital-analogue instrument cluster.

Coming to the engine bit, the rumours on the web suggest that in India, the Kaptur would get 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The 1.5-litre direct injection, common-rail diesel is expected to churn out 89bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 220Nm at 1,750rpm. The transmission is expected to be handled by six-speed manual and a six-speed Easy-R AMT gearbox, which does duty in the Duster.
