Margaret Thatcher cannot be forgotten in British history. The first female Prime Minister, who served her nation from 1979 to 1990, diminished the influence of trade unions, championed the cause of privatisation and never lost a war during her time. Thatcher, nicknamed the "Iron Lady" was leader of the Tory party and introduced a brand of politics known famously as "Thatcherism."
The research chemist, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2002, passed away on 8, April, 2013. But her legacy lives on in British politics. UK's current Prime Minister David Cameron is argued to be a great believer of Thatcherism, and on the former Prime Minister's death, Cameron paid a moving tribute in House of Commons. He said, "She was no starry-eyed internationalist, but again, her approach was rooted in simple, clear principles: strength abroad begins with strength at home; deterrence not appeasement. The importance of national sovereignty – which is why she fought so passionately for Britain's interests in Europe and always believed Britain should retain its own currency."
