Reliance LYF Earth 2 with retina scanner launched in India; price, specifications

Reliance's sub-brand LYF launched a new smartphone dubbed as Earth 2 in India.

The highlight of the new Reliance LYF Earth 2 is that boast 13MP front-camera with retina sensor-based biometric identification technology. It also boasts dedicated LED flash with PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) with full HD video recording ability.

How retina scanner works?

The smartphone beams straight light on eyes to trace a standardised path on the retina. Since, the retinal blood vessels are more absorbent of this light than the rest of the eye, the amount of reflection varies during the scan. This pattern of variations is very unique to a person (even twin identical twins don't share similar pattern) and this is converted to a computer code and stored in the smartphone.

Whenever the device owner looks into the smartphone, it will match the stored retina pattern and then the lockscreen will be opened.

Besides the eye scanner, LYF Earth 2 also houses a fingerprint sensor on the home button, as a second layer of security to safe guard the information in the phone.

On the back, it also houses same 13MP snapper with laser auto focus and dual-tone LED flash. Other stipulated features of the Earth 2 include 5.0-inch full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage and a 2500mAh battery, which can keep the phone running for close to 480 hours under standby mode.

LYF Earth 2 costs Rs. 19,999 and is available in black, gold, green and white colour options in India.

Competition:

Considering the specifications, the Earth 2 will be up against the likes of the popular Moto G4 series, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Asus Zenfone Max (2016), LeEco Le 2 and Lenovo Vibe X3.
