Reliance Jio whose 4G LTE services have created a storm in the Indian telecom sector is now rumoured to make a formal announcement on extending the free services for another three months. This development is likely to take place on December 28 which happens to be the birthday of Reliance Industries founder Dhirubhai Ambani.
As per a Business Insider report, that claims to quote reliable inside sources, Reliance Jio would announce an extension of the free Jio Welcome Offer, which is in place now for new customers to avail free 4G LTE data and voice calls, till March 2017. Another notable aspect that has surfaced is the fact that the extension of free 4G services would be applicable to the existing Jio users.
However, it is not known if the latest rumoured extension of Jio 4G services would be applicable to new Jio SIM customers. Nonetheless, all Jio 4G subscribers currently can enjoy free Jio 4G LTE services for free at least till December 31 2016. Now, with the latest rumour about the extension of the free 4G having surfaced, the specific date of December 28 would hold significance. Reliance Jio loyalists can check for announcements from Reliance Jio's end, on December 28 (if there would be any).
At this juncture, it is worth noting that there have been reports that hint at Reliance Jio extending its free Jio Welcome Offer atleast till March 2017. Even analysts from reputed firms had opined that the Mukesh Ambani-held company would resort to an extension.
"Mass scale free welcome offer could continue until March 2017 to attract subscriber growth towards the celebrated 100 million mark", states Motilal Oswal analysts. Even analysts at Citi Research were of the opinion that there would be no cap on the count of promotional offers rolled out. This also served as an indicator about Reliance Jio potentially extending the free Jio Welcome Offer even to new subscribers.
As of now, it seems that Reliance Jio is not imposing caps on the duration of free voice calls (outgoing). Noted telecom insider Sanjay Bafna points at a technical snag present even within wireless networks of other incumbent operators. This is in response to recent reports that indicated that Jio was automatically limiting free outgoing voice calls to 30 minutes.
