Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) last month, announced to launch the registration of the Jio GigaFiber broadband and related services along with JioPhone 2 pre-order on August 15. As promised, the company has now begun taking consumers requests online.
Interested consumers can apply for the Jio GigaFiber service on the company's official website and on MyJio App. It can be noted that customers need not pay any advance payment just yet, but have to confirm their interest to subscribe to the broadband service. Depending on the demand in their local area, Reliance Jio will commence setting up fibre optic lines in the roads and then intimate the customer to proceed to the installation procedure.
For those unaware, Jio GigaFiber consumers are entitled to get Jio GigaRouter, which promises high-speed wall-to-wall wireless internet connection throughout the home. Users can also subscribe to GigaTV set-top box with all channels, on-demand video (also available in 4K), music content, support voice-command in multiple regional languages and TV video calling (compatible to any smart devices including smart TVs powered by Jio GigaFiber and even phones under another network carrier).
The company has also announced to offer Smart Home solutions, which include an audio dongle, video dongle, smart speaker, Wi-Fi extender, smart plug, TV camera, outdoor camera security, door sensors and motion detection. The best part about this is that the engineers will be able to assemble them within an hour.
As of now, there is no official word on how much the company will charge for Jio GigaFiber. Rumour has it that consumers may have to cough up Rs 4,500 for installation charge following which there will be an offer of free internet service for the first three months. However, it is said to be refundable if he/she is not satisfied with the service within the aforementioned period.
Word on the street is that the monthly tariff plans may start at Rs 500 and run up to Rs 5,500 with varying speeds from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. There will also be limits for per day usage similar to the 4G Jio service for mobiles.
Here's how to register for Jio GigaFiber:
- Go Reliance Jio website or MyJio app on the mobile phone and click the GigaFiber banner
- Confirm your address on the Map
- Enter your full name and mobile number and agree to terms & conditions
- Submit the OTP number
- After completion of the process, the company posts a thank you note on the screen for the consumers showing interest in the Jio GigaFiber and confirms to intimate information about installation via the registered mobile number.
Note: To improve the chances of getting the installation at the earliest, users can ask their relatives or friends living nearby to apply for the Jio GigaFiber. Reliance is confirmed to start the service in more than 1000 cities of India, but there are no official details when it will take off.
