Reliance Jio is gearing up for the rollout of GigaFiber FTTH broadband in India starting August 15. There's a lot of anticipation from the consumers' end as RIL's foray into fixed-line broadband is likely to disrupt the home broadband segment the same way it disrupted the wireless market.
RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani announced Jio GigaFiber at the company's 41st AGM in July. The company is expected to roll out the service in 1,100 cities across the country with a target to connect 50 million users.
With Jio GigaFiber, the company is hoping to take India to the top-5 in broadband connectivity. Since Reliance Jio has really made a difference in the 4G LTE market with its ultra-cheap packages, it will need a similar fool-proof plan to win as many users as possible.
Reliance Jio 4G services started off on a high note with over 6 months of free services. It is not clear if Jio plans to do the same for GigaFiber, but there are some reports advocating in its favour. Regardless, the pricing of Jio GigaFiber plans will make all the difference and a new report by Trak has some information on it.
Jio GigaFiber plans
The report highlights five key plans for Jio GigaFiber and they start as low as Rs 500 per month.
The base plan Jio GigaFiber will likely offer will cost Rs 500 a month, where it will offer 300GB high-speed data at 50Mbps. Once the user exhausts the high-speed limit, the speed will drop significantly until the monthly cycle is refreshed. The next plan in line would be for Rs 750 a month, which will offer 450GB high-speed data at 50Mbps with a validity of 30 days.
But if users demand faster speed, Jio GigaFiber will likely offer 100Mbps speeds with FUP limit of 600GB for Rs 999 a month. Customers can get extra data limit by paying Rs 1,299 a month and enjoy 750GB total data at 100Mbps for 30 days.
Finally, there will be a top-tier plan with 900GB total data at whopping 150Mbps speeds for Rs 1,500 a month. These are the plans Reliance Jio is likely to roll out on August 15, but there's no official confirmation regarding this. It's best to take this bit of information with a pinch of salt until Reliance Jio releases an official statement on the matter.
Jio GigaFiber registrations
But what we know for sure is how users can register for the upcoming Jio GigaFiber. Interested folks can register their interest for GigaFiber through MyJio app and Jio's official website. This is an important step in the rollout of GigaFiber across all major cities in India as the company will prioritize localities based on the number of registrations.
