On Tuesday, November 20, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. (Jio) launched their Voice over LTE (VoLTE) based inbound international roaming between India and Japan. Jio has become India's first telecom operator to offer the 4G VoLTE enabled services on international roaming.
KDDI Corporation, Japan is the first international mobile service provider to offer international travellers with VoLTE network support on Jio while travelling abroad. The VoLTE-based inbound international roaming will be accessible from the countries that support VoLTE calls via their respective carriers.
"Reliance Jio is focused on delivering the best data and voice experience to all of India and those who visit India. We welcome KDDI customers to Jio as the first international VoLTE and HD roaming users in India," said Mark Yarkosky, Reliance Jio.
Within two years of its launch, Jio has become the ninth largest mobile operator in the world in terms of its user base, turning the country into the world's largest consumer of mobile data with 252 million subscribers.
