Four-time Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington has expressed her sadness over the drug-doping allegations facing Russia. She said it is very difficult but hopes to get to a point where sport across the board is 100% clean.
It was such a sad day yesterday, reading all about out it. Obviously its not my sport personally, but at the same time its still an Olympic sport and its still really sad to be able to say hold on, somethings not right here, Adlington said on 11 November.
We need to try and make sport 100% clean across the board, no matter what country and no matter what sport. For me as an athlete Ive done everything within my power to be 100% clean and Ive proved that.
I think we need to get to that point, and as an athlete I would never think about taking anything, so we need to get that mentality out there to all athletes as well. Im lucky that in swimming Ive never had to deal with that, but as an athlete I dont know how Id cope with that, thinking Ive done all my best, but thats probably not good enough.
