It looks like Maruti Suzuki Alto has got some real competition in the market. Kwid, the small car from French auto maker Renault, has zoomed past 25,000 bookings within two weeks of its release, posing as a real challenger for the entry level segment's dominant power Maruti Alto.
A report in The Economic Times states that Kwid, the small car with SUV traits, has managed to invoke all sections of the society with around 35 percent of the bookings from tier II and tier III cities such as Rajkot, Nagpur, Nashik, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Kwid, the car which has been priced in the range of Rs 2.56 lakh to Rs 3.53 lakh, comes loaded with all the bells and whistles.
Launched in four variants -- Standard, RxE, RxL and RxT -- the Renault Kwid packs the segment's first ever touchscreen Media-Nav Navigation System, digital instrument console, chrome touched tail lights and side body cladding.
Under the bonnet, powering the Kwid is a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 54PS and a peak torque of 72Nm with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Kwid also leads in terms of fuel efficiency with the best-in-class mileage at 25.17kmpl. With the class leading ground clearance of 180 mm and a boot capacity of 300 litres, Kwid measures 3679mm in length, 1579mm in height and 1471mm in width. It has a wheelbase of 2422mm.
Renault Kwid will start arriving at the dealers of the company from 7 October and the company is expected to commence the delivery of the model next week.
