Lalit Modi's stronghold in the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) might be slowly coming to an end as his 22-year-old son Ruchir Modi has lost to sexagenarian Congress party leader CP Joshi in the race to become the new RCA president.
The counting of votes took place on Friday, June 2.
As per the new guidelines laid by the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee, the existing members of the association were not allowed to contest in the RCA election 2017, which took place on Monday May 29.
Voting results at a glance
- CP Joshi: 19 votes
- Ruchir Modi: 14 votes
In numbers
17 : The winner needed 17 votes to be declared as the new RCA president
35 : As many as 35 districts across Rajasthan took part in the election
2 : A total of four candidates had thrown their hat initially. While Mehmood Abdi and Rajya Sabha MP Harshvardhan Singh withdrew soon, Ruchir Modi and CP Joshi remained the only challengers.
Unlike his father, Ruchir doesn't have any cricket administrative background as such. The 22-year-old drew attention after being appointed as the president of Rajasthan's Alwar district last year.
Lalit Modi, meanwhile, held the following posts in cricket administration:
- IPL chairman : 2007-2010
- BCCI vice-president : 2005-2010
- Rajasthan Cricket Assocation (RCA) president : 2005-2009, 2014-2015
