The Showtime crime drama series "Ray Donovan" returned with season 3 on 12 July and effectively brought Katie Holmes back to the small screen. Holmes, who appeared as Paige Finney in "The Kalamazoo", will return in the upcoming episodes as well.
In "Ding", Paige calls upon Ray (Live Schreiber) to protect a quarterback, although her father Andrew (Ian McShane) may not approve of this. Ray on the other hand, is still reeling from the death of his mentor Ezra (Elliott Gould), and may have more to deal with after his assistant Lena (Katherine Moennig) thinks of quitting the job.
Fans already know that Paige is a very manipulative, entitled woman, and Ray may end up having to protect her father from the things she does, according to the show-runner David Hollander. "Part of Ray's new job this season is to manage that family. To manage not just the family's needs for him in the business, but the family. So between tasks, he finds himself being asked to deal with and watch and protect McShane's character from what Paige might be up to," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
This means Ray will keep ignoring the issues in his own family by focusing on Finneys. According to Hollander, "He is not going to forgive people for their actions they took. It's just a little bit hypocritical, but it is Ray. He won't forgive Ezra and Avi for killing Kate (Vinessa Shaw). He won't forgive Abby for her affair. He won't forgive himself for the abuse that he tolerated or the way he's hidden it."
To see how he deals with this self-created isolation, watch "Ding", which will air on Showtime at 9.00 pm (EST) on 20 July, Sunday. You can also stream season 3 episode 2 of "Ray Donovan" online via Showtime website.
