A teen was on Sunday night allegedly sexually assaulted by a security guard of the hospital where she was undergoing treatment after being raped a few days ago. The incident took place at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
Shambhu Mahto, the accused who had fled the crime scene, was arrested on Monday morning from a locality in the city. The police arrested 12 more security guards, including a woman, who have been accused of assisting Mahto to escape, Hindustan Times reported.
Mahto allegedly raped the victim, a 13-year-old girl, when her mother had gone out to buy puffed rice.
"When I returned with the puffed rice, I saw my daughter was shaking and crying on the bed. She told me what Mahato did, but when we complained to the woman guard, she scolded us," the mother said.
The victim was first raped allegedly by a teenager in Parsudih area on 26 January and admitted to the hospital on Saturday.
The accused, a 14-year-old boy, was arrested and sent to a remand home, IANS reported.
The incidents of crimes against women in Jharkhand are reportedly on the rise. At least 1,124 cases of rape were registered in the state as of November 2015. During the same period in 2014, 967 rape cases were lodged in the state.
