Even as Ranveer Singh is gearing up for the shooting of his upcoming film Padmavati, rumour has it that the actor has already finalised his next project. According to reports, Ranveer is teaming up with Kabir Khan for his next, which will be based on India's cricket World Cup victory in 1983.
The Indian cricket team lifted the World Cup trophy for the first time under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The Bajirao Mastani actor is likely to play the role of Kapil.
"Ranveer has been approached for Kabir's cricket film and if all goes well after completing Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati the actor might start working on this project," Bollywood Life reported, adding that the film, which would be a biopic of sorts, would focus on Kapil and the struggles of the then cricket team to achieve the feat. The movie will apparently go on floors after Kabir wraps up his Indo-Chinese film Tubelight with Salman Khan.
Ranveer, who has played diverse roles in his career so far, will be an interesting watch as a cricketer on screen.
Of late, biopics on sportspersons, including Indian cricketers, have been a popular trend, the recent ones being Azhar and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. While Azhar did average business, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, received overwhelming response from the audience and broke several box office records. Sushant too was lauded for his portrayal of Dhoni in the film.
