Hrithik Roshan's portrayal of Mr A, an exceedingly charming conman, was by far the best of the three "Dhoom" films. And so, there were reports of Yash Raj Films doing a fourth instalment with the suave star. However, now it's learned that there are no plans to bring him back to the franchise and that Ranveer Singh or Ranbir Kapoor might be pulled on board.
While director Vijay Krishna Acharya denied rumours saying Hrithik has not signed the film, an industry source told Subhash K Jha that no actor (the thief, mainly) has ever been repeated in the series.
"It is unlikely that Hrithik will be part of the film because he has already been part of one edition and no actor is repeated in the Dhoom series. In fact, Aditya Chopra is looking to cast either Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh in the fourth edition — as and when it happens," the insider said.
However, the "Mohenjo Daro" actor might feature in YRF's untitled action flick, which promises to be bigger and better.
"Dhoom has been done. Now, there needs to be another series that sends the audiences pulse racing. The film that Adi has planned with Hrithik will be turned into a franchise film in the future. But unlike Dhoom, this will have only Hrithik as the central character in its sequels as well, like a Dabangg and Krrish," DNA quoted a source as saying.
Additionally, for this project, the actor would have to follow a strict work-out regime to achieve a new look. To be made on a lavish budget, the film will reportedly be spearheaded by Acharya and will have international stuntmen working on the action sequences.
