Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial film "Bajirao Mastani" release has been postponed to avoid the clash with Rohit Shetty's directorial film "Dilwale".
"Bajirao Mastani" was initially scheduled to have a Christmas 2015 release and recently the makers of "Dilwale" announced that the film will hit screens on 18 December.
However, to avoid the clash with Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer, Bhansali has postponed the release of "Bajirao Mastani". The film starring Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh will now hit screens in 2016.
"'Dilwale' will see Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol share screen space after a gap of five years — their last release together was 'My Name is Khan' (2010) — and there will obviously be hype around it. Bhansali doesn't want to take chances with 'Bajirao Mastani' and is therefore planning to push the release of the film ahead," a source told Mid-Day.
Since its Bhansali's dream project, the director wants it to be a solo release in 2016. Also, in 2007 Bhansali's "Saawariya" clashed with Shah Rukh's "Om Shanti Om" and the former film bombed at the box office.
"Also, whenever a film is released against a Shah Rukh Khan starrer, it fails to set the cash registers ringing. So, Bhansali might change the release of Bajirao Mastani so that history is not repeated," the daily quoted a source as saying.
