Mumbai City FC bagged their maiden win over Chennaiyin FC in the ISL on WednesdayISL / Press release

Mumbai City FC qualified for the ISL 2016 semifinals on Wednesday after bagging a 2-0 win over defending Indian Super League champions at the Mumbai Football Arena. This is the first time ever that they have made it to the last four of the Indian football tournament for the first time in three years.

If that was not all, Mumbai City FC are also the first team this time around to make it to the last four. They also broke their winless streak against Chennaiyin in the Indian Super League. Over six meetings so far, Ranbir Kapoor's side bagged their first ever win over the team, co-owned by MS Dhoni and Abhishek Bachchan.

In the match, goals from Matias Defederico and Krisztian Vadocz in either half did the trick for Ranbir Kapoor's men. Getting to achieve three major milestones on one evening, that too in front of their home supporters at the newly-opened Mumbai Football Arena, is more than a special occasion for Mumbai City FC.

With this win, Sunil Chhetri, who was a part of history with Bengaluru during the AFC Cup 2016, will take part in the knockouts of the cash-rich Indian Super League for the first time ever. Witnessing Diego Forlan in the most crucial matches of the league will remain an everlasting experience for the Indian football fans as well.

"It feels really great as last year we did not have a good season, and to qualify with a match in hand, it feels really good. We just want to build on the momentum and are quite confident about the semi-finals," said Chhetri after the match.

Here's how the points table transpire after the match:

1. Mumbai City FC : 22 points from 13 games.

2. Delhi Dynamos : 17 points from 11 games.

3. Atletico de Kolkata : 17 points from 11 games.

4. FC Pune City : 15 points from 12 games.
