After the success of Ayan Mukerji's "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (2013), filmmakers wanted to cash in on the movie's lead pair's popularity.
Imtiaz Ali wasted no time in roping in Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone for "Tamasha", which is set to release in 27 November, this year.
And now, word has it that the "Piku" actress might be pulled onboard for Rajkumar Hirani's movie, which will be Sanjay Dutt's biopic.
At the success bash of the Shoojit Sircar directorial, Deepika was reportedly seen chatting with the ace filmmaker for quite some time.
"Raju has been praising Deepika's performance in Piku for sometime now. Even at the party, he heaped praises on her, and, in fact, they had an animated conversation for over half an hour (sic)," an insider said, Bollywood Life reports.
The source further elaborated that even though the Kapoor lad was finalised, the director had been on the lookout for a suitable leading lady.
However, a contradictory report by DNA stated Hirani has put the biopic on hold, indefinitely. Umesh Shukla of the "OMG! Oh My God" fame confirmed that he would be directing Sanjay Dutt, but only after he's done with Amitabh Bachchan's "102 Not Out".
"I met Sanjay two days before he returned to prison. And he loved the subject that I narrated to him. We now need to work out the details after he is released. It is a human drama; not about muscles but emotions," Shukla told the leading daily.
In other news, Deepika will be next seen in Imtiaz's "Tamasha" and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani" alongside Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh. The Kapoor scion will share screen space with girlfriend Katrina Kaif in Anurag Basu's "Jagga Jasoos" next.
