Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in a tough avatar in Anurag Kashyap's upcoming film "Bombay Velvet".
Breaking away from his lover-boy image, Ranbir is all set for an image makeover as a boxer.
"In 'Bombay Velvet', I play an intense character. I am playing boxer. It's about the 1950s and 1960s," Ranbir told IANS. "We have already shot for 50 per cent of 'Bombay Velvet'. We shot in Sri Lanka. It is an interesting character and an interesting film."
The rising superstar, who has already experimented with varied characters in films like "Rockstar", "Barfi!" and "Besharam", is gearing up for other challenging roles.
"I am testing myself, but if I don't try, then there is no fun. I want to break my image and shock the audience. Abhinav wanted to make a simple film. My character is very loud and I have experimented again to do some different genre," said the 30-year-old actor, adding, "The audience might slap me and say do films like 'Barfi!', but if I don't try, how will I get to know."
"Bombay Velvet" is a first in many ways; it will be Ranbir's first film with maverick director Anurag Kashyap. He is being paired with Anushka Sharma for the first time and director Karan Johar will be playing an antagonist for the first time.
It has also been reported that Raveena Tandon has been signed for a part as a jazz singer in Kashyap's directorial.
"Bombay Velvet", co-produced by Fox Studios and Phantom Films, will be released on 25 December 2014.
