From actively interacting with their fans on social media to participating in popular TV shows, Bollywood has often come up with innovative promotional strategies.
Social media has become one of popular platforms for movie promotions and it is evident from the overwhelming responses the films like "Happy New Year" and "PK" received from the movie-goers.
Check out lead actors who refused to take part in the promotional activities of their films:
Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir Kapoor, who starred in Vikramjit Singh's debut film "Roy", was never spotted for its promotions with the other lead actors Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez. Earlier reports suggested that the "Barfi!" actor does not attend the promotional events due to his cameo kind of role in "Roy". However, the film's producer had refuted the rumours and said that he does not attend the promotions so as not to reveal much on his character.
"Actually, the thing is, we don't want to reveal much of the kind of role Ranbir has in this film. Mostly because he plays the title role and if too much information about that same would be revealed then no one would go to watch the movie," producer Bushan Kumar said in an interview with Absolute India.
Irrfan Khan
"Haider" was awarded as the best film of 2014. The lead actors Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor participated in various film promotions. However, Irrfan Khan, who did a pivotal role in Vishal Bhardwaj directorial, felt his role was not big enough and was never associated with any promotional activities.
Bipasha Basu
Bipasha reportedly did not attend the promotional events of "Humshakals" (2014) as she was extremely disturbed by the end result of the Sajid Khan directorial, which also starred Saif Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead roles.
Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra
Though reasons are not known, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra were never present for "Dhoom 3" (2013) song promotions. However, some reports suggest that they did not attend the events just because they were not featured in any songs.
Kangana Ranaut
The "Queen" actress never participated in the promotional activities of her film "Shootout at Wadala" (2013) after she was disappointed with producer Ekta Kapoor for including Sunny Leone, Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Choudry item numbers in it.
Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha
After an issue with director Shirish Kunder, Akshay Kumar backed out from the movie promotions of his 2012 film "Joker", which had Sonakshi Sinha in the female lead role.
Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor
Bebo's relationship with Shahid Kapoor was once the talk of the town. Their bitter break-up also made it to the headlines. Due to their break-up after working together in Satish Kaushik's "Milenge Milenge" in 2010, both the lead stars backed out of promoting the film.
