Prithviraj Sukumaran's Ranam has beaten the first day collection records of Aadhi and Neerali at the box office and become the second biggest opener of 2018, after Abrahaminte Santhathikal.
has opened to houseful response in the morning/matinee shows and is making fantastic collections at the worldwide box office on the first day.
Ranam is a mega-budget movie that has been completely shot at Detroit, US. The promos had created immense curiosity about the film already. The makers had initially planned to release it in cinema halls with Kayamkulam Kochunni, Oru Kuttanadan Blog, Varathan and Padayottam on August 17, but was delayed after torrential rains and floods ravaged the state.
An observer of Mollywood says, "Ranam hit the screens at the perfect time, when the flood situation is over and people are coming back to their normal life. The movie does not have any other competitor. So it will definitely become Prithviraj Sukumaran's biggest opener and highest grossing movie at the box office."
The hype surrounding Ranam helped it register a decent amount of advance booking on its opening day. The distributors released it in 150 theatres across Kerala to cash in on the craze. The movie witnessed a huge amount of footfalls in the morning/matinee shows with theatres running housefull everywhere.
However, the movie opened to mixed response from the audience, who claimed that the movie is a treat for multiplex viewers, but will disappoint the film goers in single screens. Trade experts felt that the word of mouth might affect its collection in the afternoon and evening shows.
The Prithviraj Sukumaran, Rahman and Isha Talwar starrer remained strong and in fact, went on to show decent growth in the later shows. The makers are yet to reveal the total collections of Ranam on its opening day. But if we are to go by the numbers of some chain of cinemas, it has fared well.
An expert from the industry say that Ranam has made superb collection at the box office on the first day. The movie has beaten the records of Aadhi and Neerali and become the second biggest opener of 2018, after Abrahaminte Santhathikal.
