The auspicious festival, Ram Navami, is celebrated all over the country on the ninth day of Hindu lunar calendar's Chaitra month.
This year, the festival falls on Saturday, 28 March. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Rama.
However, in South India, it is believed that Lord Rama and Sita got married on this day.
Lord Rama, the king of Ayodhya, is the seventh avatar of Hindu God Vishnu. Devotees of Lord Rama offer special prayers on the special day and the epic, "Ramayana", are chanted in the temples.
Bhajans, songs and dances, in honour of Lord Rama, are also part of the festival.
