Director Rajkumar Hirani's biopic Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor is a massive hit, but it has also received a lot of criticism from critics and audience alike. Many people have called it a "propaganda" film and not an honest biopic. To some, it looked like a deliberate attempt to whitewash Sanjay Dutt's image.
While there is no denying the fact that Hirani left out most of the controversial portions of Sanjay Dutt's life and rather painted him as a victim of circumstances, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has now vowed to make another biopic on Dutt. The biopic is tentatively titled Sanju: The Real Story and will reportedly delve into the more details of Sanjay Dutt's life which Hirani didn't show in Sanju.
"Yes, I'm making the film," RGV confirmed the news to Mumbai Mirror.
RGV watched Sanju but he was not happy with the onscreen depiction of Dutt's struggle with drugs and brush with the law. "Varma's film will focus only on his possession of the AK-56 rifle by the 59-year-old actor," a source said.
RGV has already started his research and has been meeting Dutt's associates, and cops involved in his arrest and investigation. The film will apparently explore what encouraged Dutt to acquire the rifle, how it was delivered to him and who threatened Dutt's family.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju has become the biggest Hindi blockbuster of 2018 and has already crossed Rs 300 crore mark at the domestic box office. The movie is eyeing to break lifetime box office collections of Salman Khan starrers like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Tiger Zinda Hai, Aamir Khan's PK and Dangal.
