RGV is once again in the spotlight for comparing Malayalam megastar Mammootty and his son Dulquer Salmaan, who is basking in the success of his latest films "100 Days of Love" and "Ok Kanmani".
RGV claimed that Mammootty has to learn acting from his son and Malayali fans of the superstar have attacked the director on social media with viral memes.

Varma stirred an online row after posting a death hoax tweet on director Balachander. Following this, Varma removed the tweet and apologised for posting such rumours.

RGV has often stirred controversy by comparing two big stars and he was also slammed by many after he compared Junior NTR's "Temper" to Mahesh Babu's "Pokiri" and "Businessman".
Compared to Tarak's Temper" "Pokiri" and "Businessman" seem like flops.

RGV's erotic film "Savitri", the name of which was later changed to "Sridevi", about the story of a young boy's crush on an older woman irked Bollywod actress Sridevi and her husband Boney Kapoor. Following this, Kapoor sent a legal notice to the director for using his wife's name.
Apart from this, the film's posters featuring a young boy staring at the bare mid-riff of a sari-clad woman had also irked several women's organisations.
