Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has apologised to Dulquer Salmaan and his father, Malayalam superstar Mammooty, for his controversial remark about the young star's acting skills in "OK Kanmani".
After watching "OK Kanmani" on 21 April, RGV took to his Twitter handle and praised Dulquer Salmaan. The filmmaker had tweeted, "Mamooty is a junior artiste compared to his son. Mamooty should learn acting from his son..I mean realistic. Mamootys son will make Kerala proud In the non Kerala markets in just years which Mamooty couldn't do for decades (Sic)."
This comment did not go well with Dulquer Salmaan, who expressed his disagreement with RGV. The young actor tweeted, "In ten lifetimes I won't be one millionth the actor my father is, no matter what I accomplish." In reply to this comment, many fans of Dulquer demanded an apology from RGV for insulting the legendary Mollywood actor.
RGV replied to Dulquer Salmaan's tweet and tried to defend his point of view. He wrote, "@dulQuer well sir that might b ur perspective as a biased son but as unbiased fan I think u r in 1 life a million times ur father ever was @dulQuer please ask ur own heart as an actor and forget u as his son nd be truthful to cinema."
The filmmaker continued, "@dulQuer Dont b arrogant to think u knw acting better than me .u r miles above him .if u don't believe watch his films when he was ur age. @dulQuer As a director frm 25 years I think u r better than ur father but as actor of 1 year if u think u know better just ask me to shut up."
Meanwhile, RGV admitted that he was loudmouth when he praised him, but that was his usual way of expressing excitement. He tweeted, "@dulQuer Hey I am known to speak out what I feel in a certain way of expressing my happiness and this is not the first time I did this."
The director wrote, "@dulQuer My tweets meant an extraordinary son of a great father nd if some morons dont understand back handed compliments I apologize 2 them @dulQuer I request u to Pls explain this to ur dad and if he too is offended I apologize to him too. @dulQuer But I still think u are far superior 2 ur father in my honest view as a democratic free citizen of india expressing my opinion."
This is not the first time that RGV has made such controversial remarks. It should be recalled here that he had praised Pawan Kalyan and Junior NTR, and degraded Chiranjeevi and late legendary actor NTR a while ago. But interestingly, he had not apologised for his remark then. The reason was that both the actors, who are well aware of his nature, had not responded to his remarks.
