Here is some exciting news for Rajinikanth fans.
The first look motion poster of the superstar's upcoming film "Lingaa" is expected to be released on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi (Vinayaka Chathurthi), which falls on 29 august.
"#lingaa - 1st look motion poster on #vinayakachathurthi day - aug 29," entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
"Lingaa", directed by K. S. Ravi Kumar, is touted to be a commercial entertainer, where Rajinikanth is playing a dual role.
Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha is making her Tamil debut opposite the superstar in "Lingaa." Anushka Shetty plays the other female lead in the film, which also has Vijayakumar, Dev Gill of "Sura" fame and Santhanam in pivotal roles.
"Lingaa" shooting is progressing well in Shimoga and is expected to be wrapped up soon.
The film's music is composed by Oscar winner A. R. Rahman. The audio launch is expected to happen on the Diwali festival day.
The makers of "Lingaa" are planning to release the Rajini starrer on 12 December as a special birthday treat for the actor's fans. The superstar himself confirmed the news to media persons.
"Lingaa" will be Rajini's second release of the year after the 3D epic drama "Kochadaiiyaan", which hit theatres in May.
"Kochadaiiyaan", India's first 3D film using motion capturing techniques, made with a whopping ₹1.5 billion budget, received mixed responses from the critics and the audience and turned out to be an average grosser at the box office.
Now, the Rajini fans are eagerly awaiting the release of "Lingaa", as it marks the collaboration of the superstar and director Ravi for the third time after "Muthu" (1995) and "Padayappa" (1999).
Ravi understands the audience pulse and many of his projects have turned out to be big box office hits.
Like the duo's previous films, fans will be expecting "Lingaa" to be their another hit. It will be interesting to see whether "Lingaa" will impress the audience and dominate the box office.
The film is all set to lock horns with Aamir Khan's "P.K.", which will be released on 19 December, a week after "Lingaa" releases.
"Lingaa" is likely to dominate the south box office, but the film is expected to face strong competition from the Aamir starrer in northern circuits as well as in key overseas markets.
