The much-awaited Enthiran 2 aka 2.0 release has been delayed and will hit screens in January 2018. The news was formally announced by the makers of the film on Friday, April 21.
Raju Mahalingam, the creative head of Lyca Productions, announced the news on Twitter. "Our most ambitious project, Shankar's 2.0,shifts to 25Jan2018.It moves from earlier Diwali release to achieve world class standards in VFX," he said.
The rumours in the industry over the possible delay started doing the rounds recently after Aamir Khan's Secret Superstar and Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again were suddenly announced as Diwali releases. Generally, the big production houses avoid clashes and the rescheduling of the two releases paved the way for the speculations.
The makers of 2.0 are reportedly taking extra care to give a perfect finish to their product and no compromises are being made on its quality. Hence, the movie release has been delayed.
2.0 is made on a budget of Rs 400 crore, the highest in India till date. The film is simultaneously being made in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Amy Jackson plays the female lead, while Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will be also seen in a lead role along with Rajinikanth.
As per the buzz, Rajinikanth will be seen in five different roles in Enthiran 2. Apart from scientist Vaseegaran and robot Chitti, the Tamil superstar has portrayed the characters of two dwarfs and a villain, a report in Mid-Day claimed earlier. Akshay Kumar will reportedly be seen in 12 roles.
